Here at the Queensland Amputee Golf Association, we encourage everyone to 'have a go'. We hold monthly social games for our members (and those interested in becoming members), as well as hosting the annual Qld Open. We also hold a once a year Charity Day event.

QAGA was formed in 2003 by Darren Woodrow after he attended the first Australian Amputee Open at the Coolangatta Tweed Heads Gold Club. Through Darren's effort QAGA has grown to be an organisation of goodwill and support for amputees. QAGA has the express purpose of bringing together amputees and their families through the great game of golf.

QAGA also includes other forms of disability and invites all players and non players to our monthly games which we hold on the first sunday of every month. These games are held at different locations around South East Queensland and we are looking to expand our games to include our friends from the whole of the state in the near future.

Golf clinics for all players are going to be held at venues to be advised via our website and our Facebook page. We can teach anyone who would like to learn to play and also help those who would like to improve their game.

Golf is a game for all as it has a handicap system that allows for all standards of the game no matter what the disability.

Every year we hold our state championships and this is open to all amputees. We also have special catagories as the need arises as we are expanding into including disability catagories e.g. stroke victims who lose the use of a limb.

Our mission is to:

Promote golf.

Promote golf as a form of rehabilitation and recreation for amputees and people living with limb loss.

Provide opportunities.

Provide opportunities for people with limb loss to access and participate in golf.

Build a community.

Build a community and support network for amputees and people living with limb loss.

Advocate.

Advocate for increased participation and competition opportunities on behalf of our players and members.

In 2005 I had a work accident as a Boat Builder that changed my life, after 3 years of try to save my leg the doctors Amputated my leg in October 2008, whilst getting fitted for a Prosthetic leg i seen a poster about Amputee Golf and i joined up straight away,

Played my first Amputee Comp in 2009 and i was hooked, it’s given me Encouragement and friendship and support to never give up no matter what.

Being on the Board of AGA and also President of the Queensland Amputee Golf Association (QAGA) is great to work with fellow Amputee’s and organising events and it’s rewarding when you see the smiles on your friends faces.

Ken Rowsell, Treasurer

The reason I first became involved with QAGA was, membership was a fathers day present from my wife and daughter.

September of 2008 I went to Pacific Golf Course with both my wife and daughter to meet up with Coxy, Graham, Hutchie.

To my surprise was the diversity of amputees who were playing golf, so this meeting day was the day QAGA went down hill as I joined on the spot.

See you at the next tournament.

Josh Jones, Secretary

In 2015 I was involved in a serious mining accident that resulted in the death of a close friend and the loss of my left forearm. I got into golf for both mental and physical rehab in 2016 and that soon turned into an addiction. In 2019, I reached world number 1 in the stableford division for Golfers with a disability. I strive to become a scratch golfer and hope to see golf brought into the Paralympics where I would love to represent my country.
